My interest in crystal has been launched by two giants - Two mothers-in-law. It all started when I went to England to marry my first wife. How happy was to win a wonderful and caring mother-in-law in the process. Peggy is a wonderful woman, graceful from level social over England. She spoke the Queen's English and insisted when you do certain things, it must be done "correctly". This was his go-to phrase.
Peggy lived in a windmill ancient she had converted. The interior walls of the first level are lined with panels board teak. The top two levels were finished in plaster. The mill has been beautifully decorated with two hundred years, more antique furniture of France and England. Cabinets and shelves were filled with crystal, china, silver tableware and many small collectibles. It was an avid collector of antique furniture, dishes, crystal glasses and crystal figurines.
In a kind, motherly, she explained the importance of translate the beautiful things of value in the house and that this could be done inexpensively once you knew the true value of something. In ten days, Peggy I learned the ins and outs of collecting and bargain hunting focusing on quality and workmanship.
I was a student who wants to. I must admit I was amazed by the artistic style and craftsmanship of its collector plates and crystal. I could see how all these beautiful items she loved made her feel. Her collection was a treasure for her because she liked them so much.
She liked to say that "some not worth anything unless it has value for you. "That was his philosophy and the purchase of one of many she taught me.
His collection and guardianship is what sparked my interest in the crystal and porcelain. Peggy come to America every two years and we are all gone shopping in secondhand stores pick up bits here and there. It could really find good deals.
During a visit she joined in the routine of bedtime story with my daughter. She noted that the figure of my daughter took contained an animal in history. Gran was curious if I explained that history was more enjoyable for her granddaughter when she took the figurine. My daughter was very pleased to bring the figure to through actions of the characters in the story or a fairy tale. I told him I could not find any other figures for other stories and tales tale that I wanted to read. She said she was going to do for me in England. I send him the name of a story or a fairy tale and send Gran figurine
After several years of enjoyable bedtime stories, my daughter had an interesting collection of figurines and my interest in crystal was growing glassware to figurines of all kinds, especially animals crystal
Peggy is a great lady. But what she learned has stayed with me these past forty years. After passage of his house mill has been declared historical by the Historical Society England and open to the public for short periods of time. I'll always remember its impressive collections, and instructions that she was willing to me.
I was a bachelor for quite a few years and very focused on my career working in corporate America and travel more widely, such as Business and Management Training Consultant .. Unfortunately, I am far to collect a time because I was so busy.
Somewhere in all this discomfort, I met a wonderful woman who has captured my heart. I was hired to write a book and spent six weeks in Yugoslavia researched. Being away from her made me realize that this lovely lady was to partner of my life. We married in the operation I had another charming and endearing mother-in-law. How lucky can a guy get?
My new mother-in-law, Marge, took us under his direction and patiently encouraged us to add our crystal interior. We took a lot of all shopping trips to outlet malls and craft shows to pick up crystal vases, plates and other objects in crystal that is functional and beautiful additions to our house
Like Peggy, Marge has stressed the importance of quality and confidence in buying brand names such as Waterford, Lenox, Makasa and Swarovski. I know what I want, but as a man that I am not to speed on all these buttons for interior decoration of a house needs. I was totally dependent on my wife and Mother's-in-law female prowess to choose the appropriate elements.
They have chosen well and I have always been satisfied with their purchases. Marge was a great guide along the path.
My wife and I now have a beautiful collection of Chinese porcelain, glass and crystal glass and crystal figurines. Of all our collectibles who bring me the greatest pleasure are animals crystal and crystal figurines. Perhaps because of these good memories of my daughter playing with these figures I read fairy tales to sleep with her.
Along the path of forty years of collecting, I managed to acquire some crystal figurines are quite old and no longer made. I do not care their resale value. I care about the arts and crafts of the parts. Gran would be proud and Marge is happy.
